The Model Forest Act Initiative is a groundbreaking process to support countries in modernizing forest legal frameworks through a multistakeholder and interdisciplinary approach bringing together lawyers, foresters, scientists, policy makers, and others.

Description de la séance

The Model Forest Act Initiative (MoFAI) is a groundbreaking effort to provide an innovative legal blueprint for policymakers to use in modernizing law for the protection, conservation, restoration, and ecologically sustainable management and use of forests.
In this session, MoFAI partners will discuss 21st century environmental crises, such as deforestation and forest degradation, climate change, and biodiversity loss, and will present the draft Model Forest Act—an adaptable legislative framework that can assist countries in responding to these challenges, focusing on effective implementation and enforcement and aligning law and science.
MoFAI is a global partnership comprised of the Global Judicial Institute on the Environment (GJIE), IUCN WCEL, UNEP, UNDP, UN Forum on Forests (UNFF), UNCCD Secretariat, International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), Asian Development Bank, World Bank Group, Center for International Forestry Research, and World Agroforestry (CIFOR-ICRAF), Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (ACTO), and others.
