Pourquoi participer

Get a first glimpse of IUCN’s forthcoming Explanatory Guide and exchange ideas on its significance for marine life, climate action, and sustainable livelihoods. Join an interactive dialogue on the new High Seas Treaty (BBNJ) and its impact on ocean governance and biodiversity.

Description de la séance

This session aims to have an interactive dialogue about the recently adopted high seas treaty (BBNJ) and its implications for the ocean governance and biodiversity conservation. The session will showcase the upcoming explanatory guide to the BBNJ agreement (under development) and discuss it through an interactive dialogue with the co-authors, providing a sneak-preview of this IUCN knowledge product.

IUCN has developed similar guides in the past for other Conventions and Treaties, such as for the Nagoya Protocol on access and benefit-sharing or the guide to the Convention on Biological Diversity. Those guides have become guiding lights to many diplomats, negotiators, politician, conservation practitioners and civil society around the globe, and the BBNJ Guide will seek such level of ambition too.

This publication also embodies the power of the Union (Secretariat, Commissions, Members) delivering as one.
