While agroecology constituted a marginal proportion of Official Development Assistance, including its agriculture share, overall funding increased, reaching $44 billion/year. Also, bilateral and multilateral donors have announced dedicated envelopes for agroecology as part of their food systems transformation effort. But how can funding in food systems and agroecology be tracked?

Description de la séance

Financing a systemic, multifunctional approach such as agroecology requires a holistic, flexible, coordinated, and long-term funding. It is estimated that a ten-fold increase in the current investment (i.e. $400 billion) will be required to create the conditions for agroecology to affect transformation into food systems required to address prevailing global challenges. But how can these resources be mobilized? Is the interest in agroecology translated into investments?
The proposed event includes a demonstration of the Agroecology Finance Assessment Tool developed under the auspices of the Agroecology Coalition and users’ feedback presentations. It will be followed by an exchange between both the presenters and the audience (through a real-time online survey to ensure broader participation) on the challenges in mobilizing, sustaining and tracking funding towards agroecology as a pathway towards food system transformation. It will be concluded with a wrap-up and a call to explore using the tool.
