Pourquoi participer
Participants will learn about and provide valuable policy insights into evaluating and strengthening habitat protection across jurisdictions. They will explore real-world case studies, identify implementation gaps, and learn how to apply scalable solutions, like compensation models and baseline standards, to support more coherent, effective policies to achieve net habitat gains.
Description de la séance
This capacity-building workshop, led by Ducks Unlimited Canada, invites global participants to explore how we evaluate the effectiveness of habitat protection policies, legislation, and regulations. Building on insights from the 2024 Canada Regional Forum, we’ll examine case studies and share perspectives from across jurisdictions to identify implementation challenges and lay the foundation for achieving net habitat gains. We’ll focus on the risks of fragmented policy across jurisdictions, the absence of baseline standards, and the need for coordinated enforcement – especially where species and ecosystems cross political boundaries. Participants will also explore policy tools such as habitat compensation models and funding mechanisms that support long-term conservation outcomes. Through breakout discussions and collaborative digital tools, we’ll identify approaches to strengthen policy coherence to ensure that conservation efforts are not undermined. Outcomes from this interactive workshop will help shape IUCN’s role in guiding more consistent, coordinated, and evidence-based habitat protection.Organised by
