Description de la séance
This session will highlight how Earth Observation (EO) data and AI support conservation in Goa’s coastal plains and the Indian Himalayas by integrating indigenous knowledge.Socio-economic surveys and satellite data helped IUCN member, Balipara Foundation, identify degraded forests for conservation action. To aid Goa’s Forest department with most probable locations of forest fire, we developed satellite-based biomass and fire vulnerability models considering fuelwood pressure, weather, and vegetation types.Conservationists in Goa and Assam flag Chromolaena odorata (Siam Weed) as a major threat to forest health and agriculture. We are developing a remote sensing algorithm to track its spread, guiding conservation efforts and policy interventions.By leveraging satellite data, machine learning, and open-source platforms, these projects enhance conservation planning and resilience-building in ecosystems under threat.Organised by
