ALAYA DE LEON

Biographie

Alaya “Aya” de Leon is an environmental lawyer with over 15 years' experience in the Philippines and at international level, focused on on climate change, forests and land use, nature-based solutions, human rights, safeguards, access to justice, and environmental governance. She has advised government and civil society partners on program, planning, and policy development, regularly participating in UN climate processes. 

Aya is currently the Deputy Executive Director of Forest Foundation Philippines and manages its program, the Philippines-Canada Partnership on Nature-based Solutions for Climate Adaptation. In 2015, Aya co-founded legal and policy consultancy Parabukas and served as its Managing Director. She was previously a Senior Legal and Policy Specialist at the Ateneo School of Government, and before then was as a lawyer with legal NGO SALIGAN, where she now serves on the Board of Trustees.

She obtained her J.D. from the University of the Philippines and her LL.M. and specialization in environmental law from the University of Hawai'i.
