Conservation biologist
Cécile Erny is a conservation leader specializing in biodiversity management, zoo coordination, and wildlife protection. Since 2009, she has served as Director of the French Association of Zoos (AFdPZ), where she oversees a network of more than 100 institutions, develops strategic partnerships, and leads advocacy and educational initiatives at national and European levels.
In 2024, she was appointed Head of the Seized Wildlife Assistance Service (SAASS), a public service under the French Ministry of Ecology, dedicated to coordinating the placement of live seized animals. In 2025, she became Director of IUCN CSS France, the Species Survival Center for French species, under the aegis of AFdPZ.
Beyond her executive roles, Erny is actively engaged in international conservation bodies, representing France at EAZA, WAZA, IUCN, and the European Commission, as well as at global forums such as CITES and CBD. She also contributes to several boards and committees, including the French IUCN Committee, and the IUCN Interregional Committee for Europe, North, and Central Asia.
With a Master’s degree in Biodiversity Conservation from the University of Paris VI, her expertise spans conservation policy, species management, crisis communication, and wildlife advocacy. Passionate about connecting stakeholders, she has led high-profile campaigns, published educational materials, and organized international conferences on biodiversity and wildlife protection.
