Cécile Fattebert joined the Protected and Conserved Areas (PCAs) Team in January 2020, to work on targeted knowledge exchanges between marine PCAs practitioners from different regions and Solution Providers from the PANORAMA community. Since then, Cecile has moved into the Effective Area-based Conservation programme, supporting marine PCAs engage with the IUCN Green List Standard, and more recently into the Diverse & Equitable Conservation programme, working on governance issues. She coordinates the capacity building portfolio of activities across both programmes.
Before IUCN, Cecile worked as Barren Isles MPA Site Leader with Blue Ventures in Madagascar for five years. She coordinated the formal gazetting process of the MPA, involving the various stakeholders from local communities, NGOs and associations, to the regional and national authorities. She facilitated the implementation of activities with the local fishing communities to support community-based decision-making mechanisms and integration of customary laws (dina) into the MPA management plan.
She gained her first professional experiences in ecotourism and community-based tourism in Bosnia-Herzegovina and Vietnam, and in community-based fisheries management in the Philippines.
She holds a Master’s degree in Anthropology and Sociology from the University of Neuchatel, Switzerland.
