Maitha ALMHEIRI

Biographie

Maitha Abdulla Al Mheiri is a biologist in the Biodiversity Management Department at the UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment. With over five years of national and international experience, she plays a key role in shaping the UAE’s environmental policies, strategies, and multilateral commitments.

Maitha holds a master’s in sustainable environmental law and policies and serves as the UAE National Focal Point for several global platforms, including CBD Gender &Biodiversity Focal Point and IPBES Focal Point. She led the development of the UAE National Biodiversity Strategy 2031 and the National Strategy to Combat Desertification 2030, and has been instrumental in mapping and reassessing the country’s Key Biodiversity Areas (KBAs) in collaboration with the IUCN KBA Secretariat.

She has represented the UAE in multiple CBD and UNCCD COPs, and most recently led the UAE's engagement in the G20 Global Bioeconomy Initiative.
