MD AMIRUL ISLAM

Md. Amirul Islam holds an MSc in Agricultural Science and brings 24 years of extensive experience in agriculture and food security, both in Bangladesh and internationally, with a focus on management-level roles. His expertise spans sustainable agricultural practices, cooperative development, collective marketing, wealth-creating value chain development, contract farming, traceability of agricultural commodities, project planning, implementation, and management. Throughout his career, he has conducted research on commodity cluster value chain development, market demand, traceability analysis, and policy advocacy for food security and sustainable livelihoods. His notable roles include Manager of Food Rights and Sustainable Livelihoods at ActionAid Bangladesh, Senior Manager of the Integrated Development Program at BRAC, and Deputy Director of Program and Policy at Heifer. Currently, he serves as Operations Manager for South and Central Asia at the Asian Farmers Association for Sustainable Rural Development (AFA). His key areas of expertise include ecological agriculture, climate financing, traceability analysis, agricultural cooperative development, integrated livelihood program development (encompassing crop-livestock-fisheries-based farming), strengthening farmers' organizations, and policy-level advocacy. He possesses a deep understanding of development, political, financial, economic, and social issues across East, South, and Central Asia, as well as parts of Africa and Latin America.
