Particular qualifications:
With more than 35 years of uninterrupted work in the socio-environmental area, I believe that my experience, engagement, qualifications and network meet IUCN Council demands. Throughout my professional life I worked with great leaders in the socio-environmental area and was able to participate in the construction and negotiation of part of Brazilian and international environmental policy, as well as implementing them on the various fronts they cover. I've been involved in cutting-edge discussions in the socio-environmental area in Brazil. When serving at governments (federal and state) and NGOs I experienced working with different types of counsils, and technical groups composed by professionals from differetn backgrounds and countries. I know IUCN from a long time and worked at some projects coordinnated by the organization. Since 2022 I am president of the Brazilian Members Committee at IUCN, and member of tthe South American Committee. I was able to participate in some important Network activities such as the World Congress in Barcelona (2008), remotely the World Congress in Marseille (2021) and the Latin American Park Congresses in Colombia (1997) and Peru (2019). I represented the Ministry of Environment of Brazil, the state of São Paulo, and the state of SP Ekos Institute in 4 Conferences of the Parties to the Biodiversity Convention (1998 Slovakia, 2006 Brazil, 2008 Germany and 2024 Colombia), besides other related events.
Experience in fields of concern to IUCN:
Since the beginning of my professional journey, I have been working with protected areas, biodiversity conservation and the development, monitoring and application of public environmental policies, areas of interest to IUCN. Specifically, I participated in studies and design to define priority areas for conservation and creation of new protected areas, surveying Protected Areas Downgrading, Downsizing and Degazetment (PADDD) processes, realized a desk job evaluation of some Brazilian Heritage sites, managing protected areas and protected areas systems, coordinating the red list of fauna species threatened with extinction in the state of São Paulo and coordinating the red lists of fauna and flora of the Brazilian government. Recently I am accompanying Green List discussions, Nature Based Solutions and Nature Positive iniciatives in Brazil. Besides that, I am presiding Brazilian National Committee and acompanying the South American Committee
