Learn how American state legislators are taking charge and enacting policies to advance biodiversity conservation across the United States. American subnational action has never been as important as it is today and these state legislators are creating a framework that can serve as a future national biodiversity policy plan.
Description de la séance
America’s fifty states are frequently described as “laboratories of democracy” where state legislators can introduce experimental policies and monitor their impact. Successful policies can subsequently be scaled to the national level or replicated in fellow states. Additionally, states are often quicker in their response to emerging issues such as the biodiversity crisis than the national government. This session will focus on how state legislators are moving the needle on the biodiversity crisis and positioning their states to be rich in biodiversity for generations to come. A panel of legislators will share their experiences of the process to enact their legislation and then discuss future plans. Following the presentation, a discussion between legislators and attendees is intended to generate mutual learning. State legislators may be able to act on the information learned from attendees while attendees can be inspired to generate biodiversity champions in their subnational units.
