We need entirely new industries to replace harmful value chains and build the regenerative economies of the future. Join this interactive fishbowl with leaders in conservation and alternative proteins to explore how replacement products can open nature-positive opportunities for Amazonian people while advancing global and regional conservation goals.
Description de la séance
Despite discussion of sustainable ‘bioeconomies’ for the Amazon region, there is need for more bold approaches that can create industries to replace harmful value chains at meaningful scales. Such industries, such as alternative proteins, can catalyze new regenerative economies by providing high-value, biodiversity-compatible economic opportunities to many Amazonian people. Further, although animal agriculture is a leading cause of biodiversity-loss worldwide, the conservation community has yet to seriously engage the potential for alternative proteins as a driver of sustainable economies. This session will engage participants on potential pathways by which Amazonian countries can become leaders in this globally important emerging industry. Diverse participants will grapple with the opportunities and challenges related to this replacement industry, how to appropriately scale supply chains in the Amazon, and how innovation can help build sustainable value chains and industries needed to transform economies in the Amazon and beyond.Organised by
