For the first time, IUCN has developed a global, union-wide strategy for Freshwater Biodiversity Conservation. This session will provide an in-depth overview of the strategy and highlight the role you can play in reversing the decline of freshwater biodiversity.

Description de la séance

With increasing attention placed on global water security, increasing competition for water and the impacts of climate change on freshwater ecosystems and likely demand for water in the future, the function of freshwater ecosystems as habitat, service providers, fundamental drivers of climate regulation etc, will increasingly struggle to gain recognition in a water resource constrained world.
To safeguard freshwater biodiversity, we need to change how we think about ecosystem conservation starting with valuing, batter managing and sustainably using water. The first ever IUCN Freshwater Biodiversity Strategy aims to do exactly that by engaging the whole union in safeguarding freshwater species.
