Reimagining Conservation

Pourquoi participer
We invite people from across the conservation sector to come together to learn about different approaches and discuss practical ideas to reimagine conservation to at once center human rights and more-than-human agency.
Description de la séance
Scientists have long prioritized species ecology, population dynamics and ecosystem functioning in conservation planning. But, what would conservation policy and practice entail if we were to also incorporate the agency, cultures and aspirations of a variety of more-than-humans. How do Indigenous Peoples and other non-dominant cultures incorporate more-than-human agency in their decision-making and what can mainstream conservation learn from it? This session builds on the previous session on storytelling about human-nonhuman kinship to invite collective reflections on this increasingly urgent question. We will hear from a range of speakers from across the conservation sector/IUCN membership on how they are trying to bring the more- than- human into conservation decision-making. This will be followed by a discussion to consider next steps to take forward beyond the congress.Organised by
