Pourquoi participer

This is the first time we will be showcasing the public products of the global network called MapBiomas in the context of IUCN knowledge products and conservation planning.

Description de la séance

This event's objective is to showcase how the MapBiomas initiative serves as a model of disruptive innovation for LULC mapping through a network-based and bottom-up approach. By providing 40 years of data in a free and open way and at unprecedented scale, MapBiomas is fundamentally changing how conservation efforts are planned and executed in Brazil, 13 other countries, and expanding. The discussion panel will highlight the practical relevance of this data, demonstrating its application in critical areas like the assessment of threatened species and the monitoring of protected areas. Ultimately, the event aims to illustrate how collaborative, open-access platforms are key to scaling up resilient conservation action by equipping a wider range of stakeholders with the information needed to make informed decisions and respond effectively to environmental threats.
