Hear practical lessons from a 4+ year GEF-backed effort strengthening nature-based tourism and community resilience across 11 African countries. Learn how communities and SMEs secured funding, improved governance, and built resilience—and explore concrete next steps to mobilize finance beyond donor reliance.
Description de la séance
Funded by the GEF in response to COVID-19, the African Nature-Based Tourism Platform partnered with communities and SMEs across 11 countries in eastern and southern Africa to build long‑term sector resilience. Using a bottom‑up approach, the Platform documented pandemic impacts, facilitated learning and knowledge exchange, mobilized funding with local actors, and, with NGOs, strengthened organizational capacity and local governance. This session brings together partners from Kenya and Tanzania to reflect on some key achievements of the project, and do a deep dive on business planning and investment support for Kenya’s community conservancies, and funding mobilization for Tanzania’s wildlife management areas. Looking ahead, speakers will outline priorities for sustaining impact as the project concludes—continuing to mobilize resources for on‑the‑ground implementation and expanding access to finance so communities can reduce reliance on donor funding. Join us to discuss what worked, what didn’t, and how to scale resilient nature-based tourism.Organised by
