Description de la séance
This event explores the role of genetics in biodiversity conservation, exchanging global perspectives and concrete experiences. The session highlights how conservation outcomes can be informed by genomic resources, where available, and genetic indicators derived from demographic processes. The Genomics of the Brazilian Biodiversity (GBB) represents a case study of how a national initiative can generate high-quality genomic resources to inform extinction risk assessments, species management plans, and biodiversity monitoring. A representative from the IUCN SSC CGSG will contribute from a global perspective on indicators of genetic erosion, which can often be estimated without direct genomic data, offering a practical approach for a wide range of conservation contexts.
With short presentations and an interactive discussion among panelists and the audience, this event is also relevant to the IUCN Motion up for vote at this Congress, Motion 088 "Task Force on developing a global standard for genetic diversity assessments ".
