Island raptors are vanishing at an alarming rate—some with fewer than 50 individuals left. Their loss threatens entire ecosystems and cultures. But we can change their fate. This talk unveils scalable solutions, inspiring success stories, and a bold new vision to save them. Join us—before it’s too late.

Description de la séance

Saving Island Raptors: A Call to Action Island raptors are among the most endangered birds on Earth, facing extinction 10 times faster than their mainland relatives. Habitat destruction, invasive species, and climate change threaten their survival. Some, like the Cuban Kite have less than 50 individuals whilst others like Flores Hawk-Eagle and Philippine Eagle, time is running out. But there is hope. The Mauritius Kestrel, once down to just four known birds, was brought back through captive breeding and habitat restoration. The Ridgway’s Hawk was saved through assisted dispersals and community-led conservation. Success is possible—if we scale up proven strategies. Abu Dhabi and partners are leading the way, supporting conservation across the world. Now, it’s time to expand efforts—restoring forests, engaging communities, and forming an Island Raptor Conservation Network. Will we watch these magnificent birds disappear? Or will we act? Join us—one nest, one island, one future at a time.
