This session will explore the critical role of responsible fisheries in mitigating climate change, preserving marine biodiversity, and contributing to carbon neutrality. Drawing from regional and international experiences, it will highlight how fisheries management can serve as both a climate mitigation and biodiversity conservation tool while supporting economic resilience. The session will delve into the carbon sequestration potential of marine ecosystems (blue carbon) , the impact of climate change on fish stocks and marine biodiversity, and the integration of Nature-Based Solutions (NbS) and ecosystem-based management to ensure fisheries contribute to nature-positive economies. It will showcase national, regional and international innovative approaches to aligning fisheries policy with climate and conservation goals, emphasizing data-driven decision-making, international cooperation, and investment strategies for sustainable growth.
