The participants will discover how community-led utility companies and models are transforming remote mountain regions by scaling micro hydropower, enhancing climate resilience, and promoting nature-based energy solutions, with proven success in reducing carbon emissions, generating clean energy, and empowering communities—recognized globally with Ashden and Energy Globe Awards.

Description de la séance

In remote mountain regions facing energy poverty and climate vulnerability, community-led utility companies and informal models have emerged as sustainable solutions for clean energy access. This session will showcase how community-driven micro hydropower projects are transforming livelihoods, reducing carbon emissions, and strengthening climate resilience. With 169 functional micro hydropower plants (MHPs) generating 13,844 kWh/year, these initiatives benefit over 36,000 people, while cutting CO₂ emissions by 12,502 tCO₂e/year. Through successful verification in the CDM carbon market and global recognition, including the Ashden and Energy Globe Awards, these models demonstrate the power of nature-based energy solutions in remote landscapes. Participants will explore scalable approaches, policy implications, and financial sustainability strategies for community-led renewable energy, gaining insights into a replicable model for clean, inclusive, and climate-resilient energy transitions. Join us to learn how community utility companies and informal governance structures are shaping a nature-positive, climate-resilient future.
