Guido BERGUIDO

Biographie

Guido C. Berguido is originally from Panama City.  He earned his Bachelor's degree in Environmental Biology from the University of Panama, followed by a Master's degree in Tourism Administration, an MBA in Marketing, and recently completed studies in Law and Political Science.
For over 30 years, he has been learning about Panama's rich birdlife. In his search for rare endemic bird species, two decades ago he came across Cerro Chucantí, in the Darién region of Panama. Since then, he has been fascinated by the idyllic landscapes and the diversity of its flora and fauna.  Desperate from witnessing first-hand the ongoing deforestation of the cloudforests on Cerro Chucantí, he decided to take action to protect them. That was the first step toward what is now the Cerro Chucantí Private Nature Reserve, covering over 3,000 acres, and the origin of ADOPTA Bosque, the Adopt a Panama Rainforest Association: today one of the most recognized environmental organizations in Panama.
Mr. Berguido has emerged as a leading voice in Panama’s environmental movement. He has played a central role in major national campaigns, including opposing open-pit metal mining projects, challenging road developments that would cut through pristine, high-biodiversity rainforests, and—most recently—advocating for the protection of a vital coastal zone that contains 25% of Panama’s mangroves.
