This session examines the critical role of women in ecosystem restoration, highlighting their contributions to sustainable practices and conservation leadership. It explores systemic barriers, their impact on environmental resilience, and the broader implications for global sustainability goals.
Description de la séance
Women play a vital role in ecosystem restoration, particularly in rural and indigenous communities, through natural resource management, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable practices. However, systemic barriers such as restricted access to land, resources, and decision-making limit their full participation. While the UN Decade for Ecosystem Restoration promotes community inclusion, gender-responsive strategies remain underdeveloped. The Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KM-GBF) addresses ecosystem restoration, aiming to restore 30% of degraded ecosystems by 2030, with Target 23 emphasizing gender equity and inclusive participation. The 'Building Resilience and Weaving Gender Responsive Approaches to Biodiversity Governance' project, led by Women4Biodiversity (2021–2024), aimed to integrate gender-responsive approaches into ecosystem restoration initiatives. Through these initiatives, a key set of gender-responsive principles and recommendations have emerged that ensure gender justice in policy and practice regarding restoration.Speaker
