Wataru Suzuki is Director of the Biodiversity Strategy Office, Biodiversity Policy Division, Nature Conservation Bureau, Ministry of the Environment of Japan. He holds master's degree in environmental science from the University of Tsukuba, Japan. He has work experiences with UN organizations such as the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) of UNEP, United Nations University (UNU), a TSU for IPBES (UNEP). When he worked for UNU, he was a part of a team which delt with scientific research and partnership building related to the promotion of socio-ecological production landscapes and seascapes as a part of the Satoyama Initiative. Currently, he has been involved in international policy making and coordination related to biodiversity and ecosystem services such as CBD, IPBES, IUCN including APAP, HLPF and other relevant international frameworks. At the national level, he has been coordinating and supporting the implementation of the NBSAP of Japan for the achievement of the GBF in particular the Target 3 including OECMs. He took internship with the National Park Service of the United States of America between 2003 and 2005. During his internship, he worked at the Mammoth Cave National Park and the Redwood National and State Parks as well as worked at the International Affairs Division of the US Fish and Wildlife Service in Washington DC.
