Session Description
This OECM side event at the Asia Pavilion brings together conservation practitioners and experts from across Asia to share knowledge, experiences and tools on advancing Other Effective Area-Based Conservation Measures (OECMs). Opening remarks will set the context for OECMs as a key contribution to the Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. A regional overview will outline global standards and Asian progress. National and regional case studies will present practical applications, including a tool for identifying OECMs, a voluntary biodiversity conservation site, a methodology for high-altitude areas in the Himalayas, and Korea’s implementation experiences. A moderated panel will explore challenges, opportunities and strategies for scaling up OECMs, fostering dialogue between practitioners and policymakers. The session will also launch two knowledge products: a proposed OECM identification tool for China and a regional mapping of potential OECMs in the Indian Himalayan Region. It will conclude with key takeaways and next steps.Speaker
