Dr. Olivier Chassot is the Senior Programme Officer for Protected, Conserved, and Heritage Areas at the IUCN Asia Regional Office. He previously served as a Steering Committee member of the IUCN World Commission on Protected Areas (WCPA) and has held leadership roles across prominent conservation organizations. His past positions include CEO of MigraMar, CEO and Director of Science at the Tropical Science Center in Costa Rica, and Director of the Latin American School for Protected Areas. He also served as President of the Latin American and Caribbean Section of the Society for Conservation Biology (SCB). With nearly three decades of experience, Olivier has developed expertise in natural resource management, biodiversity conservation, connectivity and transboundary conservation, governance, and sustainable development. He has extensive experience in designing, fundraising for, and implementing large-scale conservation programs, as well as leading project planning, monitoring, and evaluation. A Swiss and Costa Rican national, Olivier has implemented projects across Central America and Asia and authored or co-authored more than 150 publications. He is fluent in French, English, Spanish, and Portuguese, with working knowledge of German and Indonesian, and is currently learning Thai. Passionate about conservation, Olivier is committed to advancing excellence in governance and sustainability for protected and conserved areas worldwide.
