Participants will learn about, and provide feedback on, the draft IUCN Green Status of Ecosystems, which proposes a standardised method for assessing conservation impact and recovery status of ecosystems globally, with the intention of providing a reporting framework and catalyst for large scale restoration of degraded ecosystems.
Description de la séance
Protecting and recovering ecosystems is a central tenant of current international biodiversity and sustainability goals and targets. Understanding recovery status of ecosystems is needed to inform policy and management decisions to stop declines and shift towards upward ecosystem recovery. We will present the proposed IUCN Green Status of Ecosystems, which is a novel, consistent approach to assessing current conservation status for ecosystem types, and for measuring past conservation impact and future recovery potential for ecosystems globally. We will outline the draft framework and provide participants with interactive case studies to demonstrate its use. We will seek feedback on the proposed framework and promote an open discussion about how to assess ecosystem recovery based on participants’ experiences and expertise. The session aims to enhance engagement and consult with the conservation community, including Indigenous people, to support the ongoing development and refinement of the Green Status of Ecosystems.
