This event will discuss the importance of collaborative partnerships for protected and conserved areas, recognizing the essential role played by civil society organizations (CSOs), local communities, and other stakeholders. We will present successful models to draw concrete lessons and formulate practical recommendations to improve future management approaches in the region.

Collaborative management partnerships (CMPs) that include diverse community representation are key to unlocking effective management of protected and conserved areas in Africa. This event will bring together representatives from community-based organisations, civil society organizations, as well as state agencies, funders and the private sector to explore how CMPs can be leveraged to improve community participation and unlock management effectiveness in protected and conserved areas. Expert panellists will share their experiences on fostering authentic partnerships and the integration of traditional and modern knowledge systems. Discussions will focus on how enabling conditions can be supported and diverse resources accessed through CMPs, how innovative CMPs can support a One Health approach in African community conservation areas, and the relative return on investment that accrues from effective, functional partnerships.Organised by
