Concerned about climate overshoot? New emerging technologies and approaches being proposed and even trialled to address and abate global warming on a planetary scale, from solar radiation modification to marine carbon dioxide removal. This session will offer a technical introduction, including on the governance, policy, and regulatory gaps.
Description de la séance
There has been an increased interest in geoengineering options to address the climate crisis. The field is moving so rapidly that it can be challenging to get an objective overview of the current state of global knowledge, policy and action on this issue, and of its true potential and risks. This introductory session will unpack the different dimensions of geoengineering, from discussing the most prominent technologies to outlining the risks and status of the existing governance frameworks. The session will also introduce the motion that aims for IUCN to develop a policy on this topic, which will be considered during the Members’ Assembly.Organised by
