Session Description

Nature-based solutions (NbS), such as afforestation, reforestation, and wetland rehabilitation, are powerful tools to address climate change, biodiversity loss, and land degradation. While governments have launched large-scale greening programs, sustaining these efforts requires new financial and governance models. This session will highlight the vital role of private capital not only as a funding source but as a long-term partner in design, monitoring, and stewardship. We will explore innovative financing approaches, including carbon market mechanisms and public-private partnerships, that make NbS investments both impactful and economically viable. Discussions will also focus on key enablers such as governance frameworks, certification standards, MRV systems, and technological innovations. Participants will gain insights into proven and emerging business models for NbS, alongside reforms needed to align climate ambitions with investment incentives ensuring nature-based solutions deliver benefits for both people and the planet.
