Descripción de la sesión
The GBFF was established in response to decisions from the Convention on Biological Diversity at COP15 to scale up financing for the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. Launched at the Seventh GEF Assembly in Vancouver, Canada in August 2023, the GBFF aims to help countries achieve the Global Biodiversity Framework goals and targets with a strategic focus on strengthening national-level biodiversity management, planning, policy, governance, and finance approaches. To date, the fund has garnered significant support, with a total of $383 million pledged by 12 sovereign and subnational contributors as of November 2024. The GBFF provides enhanced support to Indigenous Peoples and local communities, SIDS, and LDCs, according to their own priorities.
This session will take stock of the GBFF’s achievements to date and showcase some success stories with a focus on Indigenous Peoples. It will also provide the latest information on how to access GBFF financing.
