Por qué asistir
Central Asia is home to iconic and imperiled species across unique ecosystems increasingly under anthropogenic pressure compounded by climate change. This event features stories and discussions about ongoing accomplishments and future needs to increase scientific knowledge, management capacity, and activities to increase and achieve “well-connected” protected areas for the region.
Descripción de la sesión
Central Asia is one of the world’s last great migration hotspots and collaboration is increasing in and among countries in the region to achieve the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF). This session will highlight projects in Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan contributing to growing scientific knowledge, enhanced management practices, and the potential for new protected and conserved areas, as well as ecological corridors to safeguard ecosystems and wildlife in the face of increasing pressures. Participants will learn of growing solutions to reduce barriers to connectivity and promote transboundary protected and conserved areas in support of Target 3 of the GBF through greater stakeholder engagement .The session will also explore the roles of the Convention on Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) Central Asian Mammals Initiative and the IUCN World Commission on Protected Areas and its relevant specialist groups in facilitating communication and collaboration for increasing transboundary and connectivity conservation.Speaker
