This session brings together experts from the Amazon and Congo Basin to discuss the development and implementation of Other Effective area-based Conservation Measures (OECMs) and their complementarity with protected areas. Through short presentations and a panel discussion, participants will explore how ecosystemic and community-centered approaches are being applied in both regions to strengthen biodiversity protection and climate resilience. The event will highlight the importance of South-South dialogue for sharing learnings about inclusive governance models and effective conservation frameworks tailored to diverse socio-environmental realities. This dialogue is particularly relevant for decision-makers, researchers, and practitioners working on the interface of conservation policy, indigenous and local governance, and international biodiversity commitments.Speaker
