This presentation describes the ambitions of the Al Ain Zoo’s African Elephant Programme to revolutionize the way elephants are kept in human care. With the keeping of zoo elephants under intense scrutiny world wide, it is imperative that new blueprints are available for zoo habitats that meet the complex physical, social and environmental needs of African and Asian elephants.
