Sir Bu Nair Marine Turtle Conservation, Monitoring and Research Programme
Session Description
Sir Bu Nair Protect Area is the largest nesting colony of the critically endangered hawksbill turtles in the UAE, where up to 400 nests have been reported annually (EPAA-EMEG, 2020). In 2014, SBN- PA was recognized as a Network Site of Regional Importance by the Indian Ocean – South-East Asian Marine Turtle Memorandum of Understanding (IOSEA), highlighting the significance of conservation actions in Sir Bu Nair for the protection of the wider hawksbill turtle population. Established in 2010, the programme aims to protect sea turtles and their habitat in SBN- PA supporting the reduction of threats to their survival while helping preserve healthy populations in the UAE so turtles can flourish across the regionOrganised by
