Emirates Global Aluminium

Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA), the world’s largest producer of “premium aluminium” and a global leader in integrated aluminium production, is proud to participate in the IUCN World Conservation Congress.

EGA’s operations span the full aluminium value chain, from alumina refining to primary aluminium smelting and recycling, with a footprint across the UAE, Germany, and the United States. In the UAE, EGA operates aluminium smelters in Jebel Ali and Al Taweelah, along with an alumina refinery in Al Taweelah. Internationally, the company runs a speciality foundry in Germany and a recycling plant in the United States. Today, EGA produces one in every 25 tonnes of aluminium made worldwide and supports a UAE aluminium sector that provides more than 57,000 jobs.

Aluminium is essential for a modern life and a sustainable future due to its unique properties and recyclability, yet its production carries potential environmental impacts. EGA addresses these responsibly, embedding environmental stewardship across its operations. All sites in the UAE are monitored by in-house specialists, certified to ISO 14001:2015, and verified against the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative Performance Standard.

In 2024, EGA developed a new Biodiversity Action Plan for its UAE facilities in line with the ASI Performance Standard. The plan reflects the company’s commitment to safeguarding biodiversity near its operations. Both major UAE sites are located close to nationally protected areas that support coral reefs, mangroves, and seagrasses. Through monitoring and conservation initiatives, EGA helps ensure these ecosystems remain protected.

Through its participation in the IUCN World Conservation Congress, EGA is sharing its experience in embedding biodiversity conservation and environmental responsibility into industrial practice, while continuing to advance the UAE’s contribution to a more sustainable future.
