Roseman Mc Arthur Adams, otherwise known as the “YoungBuffalo,” is a visionary community leader, entrepreneur, and conservationist from Union Island, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. With a lifelong objective to elevate, promote, and strengthen his community and institutions, Adams has combined business innovation with environmental stewardship for over three decades.
He is the co-founder and long-serving supervisor of the Union Island Environmental Attackers (UIEA), established in 1999, where he has led groundbreaking conservation initiatives across St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Adams became the country’s first certified turtle handler under WIDECAST, launched Turtle Watch as a tourism product, and was instrumental in achieving a national ban on the harvesting of sea turtles and parrotfish. Through his leadership, community awareness of endemic and endangered species rose from 10% to 90%, and habitat protection expanded from 8 hours to 24-hour patrols. His conservation efforts have gained international recognition, including showcasing Union Island’s sea turtle work to Prince Harry. Adams has also advanced water security in the Southern Grenadines and continues to be a trusted advisor to government agencies and international organizations.
Alongside his conservation work, Adams is a successful entrepreneur. Since 1997, he has managed the Buffalo Trading Company Ltd., pioneering Union Island’s first Internet café (later growing into the country’s largest WiFi system), establishing the island’s first mini-mall, and revolutionizing local tourism and transport services through D Rose Tours and Taxi. His ventures have built vital community infrastructure while creating new economic opportunities.
Adams’ professional journey began in finance, first as a Foreign Exchange Teller at the National Commercial Bank in Union Island, and later in New York with Citibank N.A. as part of the Branch Electronic Equipment Support Team, where he earned the Investment Derby Award in 1992. He is academically distinguished with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from The City College of New York (scholarship recipient and peer counselor) and an Associate’s degree in Business Administration from Borough of Manhattan Community College (graduating with honors and multiple awards).
A pioneer and trendsetter, Adams continues to blend business strategy with conservation innovation. His interests include product development, business negotiations, conflict resolution, and advancing sustainable solutions that protect biodiversity while empowering communities.
