CATHERINE LOSURUTIA

Biography

My name is Catherine Sipiteki Losurutia. I am a Maasai woman, born and raised in Kiteto District, Manyara Region, Tanzania. I come from a community where women play a vital role in caring for families and contributing to environmental conservation, which has inspired my passion for the work I do today.

I have worked with the Ujamaa Community Resource Team (UCRT) as a Gender Field Officer for over eight years. In this role, I empower women to advocate for transformation and recognition of their rights, while equipping them with the skills and knowledge needed to participate in decision-making at the community level actively. In 2024, I joined the ICI Fellowship Program on International Environmental Policy and conducted a case study on the impact of climate change on women and local communities, further strengthening my capacity to support women and communities in sustainable development
