Erustus KANGA

Biography

Prof. Kanga has over twenty (20) years of experience in biodiversity conservation, climate change vulnerability assessment and mapping, bio-enterprises, and community livelihood support. He has a long trajectory in biodiversity conservation, including four (4) years of strategy and policy direction as the Secretary for Wildlife at the Ministry of Tourism & Wildlife, and over 18 years of extensive work experience with the KWS, in both technical, managerial and leadership responsibilities. In 2017 and 2023, he was bequeathed with Kenyan Presidential Awards of the Head of State Commendation (HSC) and Elder of the Burning Spear (EBS) respectively, for distinguished and exceptional service to the nation in the field of wildlife conservation, management and protection. Prof. Kanga attained his PhD in Natural Resources Conservation from the University of Groningen in the Netherlands in 2011. He has authored over thirty (30) publications, and is driven by the passion to work towards the core purpose of biodiversity conservation. In October 2024, he was appointed a Guest Professor at Wuhan Botanical Garden, Chinese Academy of Sciences.
