Biography
Dr. Manal Awad is the Minister of Local Development and Acting Minister of Environment of Egypt. She previously served as Governor of Damietta (2018–2024) and Deputy Governor of Giza for Community Affairs and Environmental Development (2015–2018). With a PhD in Veterinary Medical Sciences, she has combined academic expertise with leadership in local governance, women’s empowerment, and environmental development. She is a recipient of the UNESCO Learning Cities Prize and Egypt’s Government Excellence Award, and has been recognized among the “Top 50 Influential Women” in Egypt and by UN-Habitat as one of the Arab world’s most inspiring women leaders.
