Session with interpretation
Why attend
This session will examine how to address emissions, biodiversity, and ocean health concerns across the shipping sector value chain, drawing on the 2030 Marine Biodiversity and Ocean Health Breakthrough Roadmap to devise actionable strategies for ports, shipping, and maritime governance across the region.
Session Description
Part of the MENA Oceans Summit 2025, this session draws on the MENA Maritime Programme, through which the MENA Oceans Initiative serves as Regional Engagement and Delivery Partner for the Maritime Breakthrough by the UN Climate High-Level Champions, the UN Foundation, and the Sustainable Shipping Initiative. Following 2030 Marine Breakthrough and Ocean Health Breakthrough Roadmap, developed in Phase 1 of the Programme, which charts strategies to connect emissions reduction with ecosystem health, biodiversity, and governance. Experts from industry, government, and science will explore how to contextualise and implement this roadmap across the sector value chain, linking decarbonisation to wider ocean health, coastal resilience, and inclusive governance in line with global climate and biodiversity targets — examining advancements, policy priorities, and partnership opportunities with the potential to accelerate the transition to a climate-smart, sustainable ocean transport economy in the MENA region.Organised by
