Particular qualifications:
As an IUCN Councilor, I will bring my extensive experience in conservation leadership, policy advocacy, and sustainable development to advance the Union’s mission. With over two decades of dedication to environmental protection, I have led large-scale conservation initiatives, fostered multi-stakeholder collaborations, and implemented community-driven solutions that balance biodiversity conservation with human well-being. My work as the Director of the Foundation for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Assets (FPWC) has been instrumental in shaping policy, expanding protected areas, and driving innovative conservation models in Armenia and beyond. I have successfully mobilized resources, built strong partnerships, and advocated for nature-based solutions to address pressing environmental challenges. As a Councilor, I will focus on strengthening IUCN’s global impact by promoting inclusive governance, enhancing local engagement, and advocating for science-based conservation policies. My experience in bridging governmental, private, and civil society sectors will help translate IUCN’s vision into effective action, ensuring that conservation efforts are sustainable, impactful, and aligned with global priorities. I am committed to upholding IUCN’s values and fostering collaboration among members to drive meaningful change for nature and people worldwide.
Experience in fields of concern to IUCN:
I have been actively engaged with IUCN through multiple roles, contributing to its mission of global conservation and governance. As a Steering Committee member of ICENCA , I work to strengthen regional cooperation and conservation efforts. Under my leadership, FPWC hosted an ICENCA meeting in Armenia, fully financed by FPWC, providing a platform for strategic dialogue. As a member of the IUCN SSC, I have supported species protection strategies and helped expand IUCN membership, bringing four new members, including Yerevan Municipality. By the end of 2025, Armenia is set to join IUCN as a state member ahead of the Abu Dhabi Congress. I initiated the PPA model, focusing on the Caucasus Wildlife Refuge (CWR), now recognized globally. FPWC co-initiated the IUCN motion on PPAs, promoting diversified conservation strategies. My experience in bridging governments, NGOs, and communities will help strengthen IUCN’s vision for sustainable and inclusive conservation worldwide.
