Particular qualifications:
My work experience in environmental management, climate change adaptation and biodiversity conservation work has been over 25 years mainly in the Pacific region. This I believe is a huge asset in addressing the needs of the various Pacific Island communities in the areas of conservation, climate change adaptation and sustainable development. I have continued to be involved in various aspects of Pacific based biodiversity and climate change adaptation through a number of applied research studies. This has helped me even to have a far deeper understanding of the root causes and underlying factors that has derailed some of the conservation and adaptation work in our region. Hence, findings of this applied research work would enable me to draw out appropriate and long-term solutions in the current problems experienced of biodiversity conservation, climate change adaption.
Experience in fields of concern to IUCN:
I have experience in networking with key stakeholders in biodiversity conservation. I am a trustee of the Fiji Locally Managed Marine Area Network (FLMMA) and the Women in Fisheries Network in Fiji, WiFN-Fiji). Furthermore, I have wealth of experience in environmental and climate change adaptation. I have served as a Community Liaison Officer for the USAID Coastal Communities Adaptation Project (C-CAP). We worked in 10 Pacific Island States and 10 communities for each these countries. In addition, I was Fiji’s Restoration of Ecosystem Services and Climate Change Adaptation project (RESCCUE) Coordinator, the project focused on community-based biodiversity conservation, climate change adaptation which included rehabilitation of degraded coastal land areas. In both initiatives, Nature Based Solutions was applied.
