Session Description

Join Families in Nature for a hands-on session that immerses participants in a sensory science curriculum designed for diverse learners. This session will examine the creation and implementation of the curriculum, which was designed to connect students to the natural world through tactile, auditory, olfactory, and kinesthetic experiences. Participants will engage in immersive sensory activities, including forest bathing, nature play, and science lessons that foster deeper connections to the environment. Together, we will discover approaches to make science accessible to everyone, using natural materials and simple tools. Developed in collaboration with the Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired, this curriculum emphasizes experiential learning in nature to foster accessible connections to the environment and deepen scientific understanding. Participants will leave with adaptable strategies for implementing sensory-rich programs in their own settings, supporting a more inclusive approach to safe outdoor learning and nature connection, fostering the next generation of conservationists.
