Join us to explore how protecting saline lakes can unlock resilient conservation strategies and nature-positive solutions, safeguarding biodiversity, supporting communities, and driving sustainable futures for all.

Session Description

Saline lakes are vital ecosystems supporting biodiversity, livelihoods, and climate resilience, yet face threats from overexploitation, pollution, and climate change. This session organized by the International Society for Salt Lake Research in cooperation with Spanish Society for the Defense of Geological and Mining Heritage highlights innovative conservation strategies and nature-positive approaches to protect and restore these habitats. Experts will share case studies and policies to strengthen conservation efforts while promoting sustainable economies and societies. Attendees will gain insights into the benefits of saline lake conservation, such as safeguarding migratory bird routes, supporting local communities, and enhancing water security. Conducted in a world café format, the session encourages dialogue and cross-fertilization of solutions. It will also explore integrating saline lake conservation into global frameworks to advance biodiversity and climate adaptation goals.
