Session Description
In 2013, the IUCN SSC PSG SSA began a network to address gibbon conservation challenges. By 2020, GGN was established with 17 founding members to strengthen efforts. In 2025, GGN members drafted the first motion dedicated to gibbon conservation, emphasizing collaborative conservation efforts. This 90-minute session will start with a 30-minute panel featuring six participants who will share updates and successes in gibbon conservation. Following the panel, a 40-minute World Café-style discussion will explore enhancing gibbon conservation through international cooperation, local community involvement, addressing knowledge gaps, and sustainable nature-based solutions. Participants will brainstorm strategies to promote more holistic conservation planning and collaboration for gibbons. The session will conclude with 15 minutes of group feedback, followed by a 5-minute summary on immediate actions, focusing on collaboration and next steps to protect gibbons and their habitats: 20 species, 11 countries.
