Session with interpretation
Why attend
This session introduces a unique new free online training resource, with the IUCN Academy, for biodiversity conservation practitioners who work in conflict-affected countries, or who encounter disagreements around natural resource use and protection. The session will include lessons from practitioners already using conflict-sensitive approaches to support more resilient conservation work.
Session Description
Conservationists often have to manage competing interests or tensions related to nature protection and natural resource management, or work in conflict-affected contexts. Conversely, cooperation on nature protection and sustainable resource use can bring communities and societies together and promote social cohesion and peaceful coexistence. However, there is currently no readily available training to help conservation professionals integrate a conflict-sensitive approach into their daily work. This session will launch a new course that will fill this gap and share experiences on how to apply conflict sensitivity in conservation work. Hosted on the IUCN Academy platform and supported by the PeaceNexus Foundation, the course will be available free of charge. The session will include brief presentations on the course and how these tools are used in current conservation practice. Participants and session contributors will also have the opportunity to discuss how the course could be useful for their work.Organised by
