Why attend

This session introduces a unique new free online training resource, with the IUCN Academy, for biodiversity conservation practitioners who work in conflict-affected countries, or who encounter disagreements around natural resource use and protection. The session will include lessons from practitioners already using conflict-sensitive approaches to support more resilient conservation work.

Session Description

Conservation actors often have to manage competing interests or tensions relating to nature protection and natural resource management; or work in conflict-affected contexts. Conversely, cooperating on nature protection and sustainable resource use can bring communities and societies together and support social cohesion and peaceful co-existence. Yet currently, no easily accessible training exists to support conservation practitioners to integrate a conflict-sensitive approach into their daily work.

This session will launch a new course that fills this gap and will share experiences of how to apply conflict sensitivity in conservation work. Hosted on the IUCN Academy platform and supported by the PeaceNexus Foundation, the course will be available for free.

The session will include:
- A mentimeter to engage participants
- One presentation about the course; and one about how tools are being applied in conservation practice (10”)
- A Q&A with participants online and in the room, supported by session collaborators (20”)
