Explore aspects and examples of community involvement and engagement to ensure a One Health approach with a focus on enhancing conservation measures in Central Asia

Session Description

One Health is an integrated, unifying approach that aims to sustainably balance and optimize the health of people, animals and ecosystems. Communities living on the borders of protected and conserved areas are particularly vulnerable to zoonosis risks due to their interactions with wildlife and livestock. As these communities play a significant role in land and wildlife management, they are important target groups and actors in the implementation of One Health approach and related initiatives. The podcast will discuss the role of communities and their engagement mechanisms in nature conservation and sustainable land and nature resources management. On the base of the IKI One Health project in Central Asia, the examples and actions of including communities to strengthening area-based conservation, governance of protected and conserved areas (PCAs), species and zoonotic diseases monitoring, development and implementation of conservation measures will be showcased.
