I am a research fellow at Newcastle University, UK, working on global biodiversity conservation and policy. My research focuses on delivering the science required to inform and support the implementation of global biodiversity conservation policy. I collaborate closely with a diverse network of national and international colleagues from IUCN and SSC, on the development of the Species Threat Abatement and Restoration (STAR) metric (Mair et al. 2021), and we work with external partners to test the implementation of the metric. I was also a member of the IUCN SSC Post-2020 Biodiversity Task Force, which worked to provide the scientific basis for the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, agreed by Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity. The task force has now become the IUCN SSC Global Biodiversity Framework Task Force, and we work to provide scientific and technical expertise on the Framework’s species related targets.
