Why attend

To gain a comprehensive understanding of how PES can contribute to a nature-positive economy by 1)learning the latest best practices in PES; 2)connecting with stakeholders and policymakers interested in promoting PES; and 3)engaging in active discussions that can help shape the future of PES policies.

Session Description

Some governments have introduced public compensation programs for protected areas, but these initiatives often struggle to catalyze an economic transition towards a nature-positive economy. For instance, in Korea, the government has been implementing Payment for Ecosystem Services (PES) focused on wetlands, larger rivers, and reservoirs, whereas the Jeju government has launched a program aimed at the entire island, encouraging voluntary conservation efforts by local communities through eco-tourism. To effectively shift our conservation models via economic transition, more innovative ideas need to be shared and this session will address the challenges and help shape conservation models through best practices.
